In short :
-very coarse stone
-not porous
-does not require soaking
This stone works well with a very low pressure. I used 0.2 to 0.6 psi and it cut fast, produced a coarse scratch pattern and suffered no significant hollowing/dishing in 2250 passes.
However given the rate that it was building up a slurry with such low pressure it is likely if used on thin bevels it would wear very fast which is likely why it has a reputation for being such a fast wearing stone.
As with any stone you have to match the stone, the force used and the amount of water (or other lubricant used) to produce ideal results. If any of those are far from the ideal conditions then the performance will suffer as a result.
