Video of a ride onboard 2021 New Flyer XDE40 9553 operating on the B62 from Astoria to Downtown Williamsburg, after a snow storm the night before.
As part of the Queens Bus Redesign, the B62 was rerouted and extended up 21st Street in Queens and via 30th Avenue to/from Astoria Projects. In Queens, the B62 effectively operates like a limited-stop route despite being classified as a local route. Along 21st Street, it makes the same stops as the Q100 (plus one additional stop). The route was initially classified as a limited, before the stop additions/removals were only limited to ones within the borough of Queens. Stops and the route in Brooklyn may change and are being analyzed as part of the Brooklyn Bus Redesign, with a revised draft coming out sometime this year.
The lower ridership during this time of year plus the usual reduction in ridership after certain amount of snow made it an ideal time to take a ride. The bus get to Downtown Brooklyn pretty quick, and it was also part of a trip of buses headed together towards Downtown as it navigated through Brooklyn. Therefore, ridership on this trip is not indicative of typical conditions.
A rundown of the trip will be provided soon.
