How to add series parallel switching to a humbucker pickup:

To get the best of both worlds out of your guitar, you can wire in a double pole double throw switch, commonly abbreviated as DPDT switch, which oddly enough is even more difficult to say. So I just call it, a dippin' dot switch. This switch will allow you to switch back and forth between series and parallel wiring whenever you want. And here's how to do that:

First, make sure your humbucker has 4 conductor wiring

Next, get yourself a dippity-dot switch,
The bottom of your dippity switch will have 6 pole pieces numbered left to right, up to down.

Now, wire your dippity do-daw as follows:

Take the start lead (+) of coil 1 and connect it to pole 1.

Connect the finish lead (-) of coil 1 to pole 4.

Then, connect the start lead (+) of coil 2 to pole 2 along with the bare ground wire if you have one, and your finish (-) lead to pole 3.

Next, connect a jumper wire from pole 5 to pole 6.

Lastly, pole 1 will be your hot (+) output, and pole two will be your ground. Wire those up to your pickup selector or volume pot as normal as you normally would straight from the pickup.

If you planning to do this mod, take a quick screen shot of this diagram for future reference.

In this configuration, when the switch is in the up position, you will be in parallel, click the switch down to be in series. If you want it reversed, either wire it like this...or after you wire it, just flip your switch upside down when you install it in your guitar.
