🌳 PEAK DISTRICT ⛰️ Astonishing views from Alderman's Hill and Pots & Pans - Saddleworth Walking Tour

Howdo everyone!
This new Peak District walk is a season out of sync I'll admit, I filmed this Saddleworth gem at the start of Autumn, so there is much greenery still to be seen. But as I've been pre-occupied with some real-life things recently, I'm a bit behind.

Well as I'm sure you've already seen on the title, we're going up to Alderman's Hill! As well as a continued walk along the hillside to visit the popular Pots & Pans stone and Saddleworth cenotaph above Uppermill and Greenfield.

We'll be starting from a car park on Holmfirth Road along the side of Dove Stone Reservoir (Dovestones). And walking up the steep front of Alderman's Hill, between the rock on the brow, then onto the tops to look over the huge panoramic views of the Chew Valley. From here you can see Wimberry Rocks (Indian's head), Dean Rocks, Ashway Gap, Greenfield and Yeoman Hey Reservoirs, leading down to the most well known - Dove Stone Reservoir.

After we've explored the rocks and had enough of the fantastic Peak District views, we can hike along the hilltops to the distant cenotaph that sits prominently above the villages below. From here we can get a good look at (and climb on) Pots & Pans Stone. A famous local landmark that has the alternate name of "The Druid Stones".
The local folklore says the worn circular bowl shapes in the millstone grit rock were used by Druids to collect blood from human sacrifices!
The water that collects in the small basins on top, was also said to have healing properties. But druid's altar or not, it's a very interesting feature, so well worth a gander.
Then we turn back the way we came for a short while, until we come across the nearby disused quarry. Filled with some interesting standing stones and left over rock formations from the old works.
Once we've explored our way out the other side, we bob up onto the hilltop moors again and walk back towards Alderman's brow. We head back through the rocks the way we came up, but this time turn left under the looking rocks hanging over the edge. We can get a good view of the stones here, as well as the ones that have tumbled down over time. As well as more grand views of Yeoman Hey and the moorland above.
There's a new pine tree plantation up here that's still growing in, but it makes for a nice final bit of interest before we get back to the road again. You'll have to excuse the loud pop sounds on the way down here. I apparently went on a day that rich people had paid to shoot all the local grouse off the moors, so there's a lot of distant banging on the last stretch.
From Holmfirth road, we just walk down the slope back towards the car park and look into the woods that line the road here, they make for some great framing of the hilltops above Dove Stones and around the peaks here. After a short while we're back to where we started just in time to scare a cluster of hiding grouse away on our closing view.
