Here's a look at the past decade's biggest money-makers among the dearly — and famously — departed. These stars are still pulling in revenue (most often for their estates) through marketing and licensing deals, and royalties on their work.

While most ghosts and spirits have no income to speak of, that is not the case for all of them; some celebrities left behind a legacy so great that they are still cashing in after death!

Success of some significant people never dies. This is especially true for artists, inventors and scientists that left the world with their creations or findings. Whether it is their evergreen TV shows, books or songs, every time the content in these are used by a publishing house, the celebrity's estate makes money from selling the license to use it. Along with its varied rich-lists, Forbes Magazine also compiles a list on "The Highest-Paid Dead Celebrities" each year.

The King of Pop topped Forbes' list of the top-earning dead celebrities. That multi-million dollar haul is from recorded music sales, owning half of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing empire and the Vegas Cirque du Soleil show, Michael Jackson One, according to Forbes.

Following Jackson on the list was another music king, Elvis Presley. Cartoonist Charles Schulz, creator of the beloved Peanuts comic strip, placed third on the list from licensing revenue earned from bringing Charlie Brown and gang worldwide.

To compile their list, Forbes looked at pretax earnings of the celebrities from October 1, through October 1, looking at money made from record sales, music publishing, film residuals, licensing and other ventures to make their list.
