IFS-Informed EMDR Part 1: How to Unblend from a Part & Cultivate Self Energy

Have you ever started to do some parts-work with a client and quickly realized - Oh, they are not in their Core Self right now? Maybe you weren't sure exactly how to help them cultivate more of the Self Energy that's truly essential for IFS / Ego State Parts work. In this video, I talk about how to recognize when a client is not moving in Self Energy and how to shift to help them engage with the parts (or Protectors) that are present. I ask questions like:

"How do you feel toward the part of you that.... (holds this fear or anger)?
"Let's turn toward the (fear or anger) and let it know we really want to understand it."
"Thank you for speaking with us today."
"Can you tell us what you are most concerned about?"
"What is your job in this system?"
"How do you feel about your job? Do you like it?"
"What would happen if you didn't do your job?"
"What would you need from me in order to not have to work so hard?"
"Would you be open to us working together to help (client) feel better?"
