Tenuta di Valgiano 2015

Have you ever had a wine from Lucca in your wine glass? To be honest, I only heard a few people talking about it at wine tastings and always the name Tenuta di Valgiano came up - always. In a charming hilly landscape, not far from the Tuscan city of Lucca and away from the industrial plains, a trio is said to be up to mischief and produce a top-class wine with world-class quality. It always sounded exciting to me, but why should I visit this phantom winery. After all, there are so many other wineries to discover in Tuscany and I have not even begun to visit half of them.

But as luck would have it, I had missed a plane last year and somehow I was in the catchment area of the winery and thought to myself - what should happen. In the worst case, they have good olive oil up in the hills and the air is certainly more pleasant. I was pretty much speechless when I finally saw the winery with my own eyes for the first time. The first part of the way to get there was anything but scenic and attractive. But from a certain point, after a certain curve to be exact, the landscape changed almost suddenly and you had the feeling that you were being beamed somewhere else. Blend of Sangiovese 60%, Syrah 20% and Merlot 20%. Dark garnet-red coloured and border to the rim. Fragrant and irresistible. Tenuta di Valgiano 2015 exhibits a full impact of dark cherry, plum and sanguine. Perfectly combined with spicy nuances of pepper, nutmeg, clove and cardamom. Expanding behavior on the palate with a tight and powerful body. Strong backbone. Juicy. Pirelli grip. Balanced acidity and fine-grained tannins. Flamboyant and long finish.
