Minnesota's Iron Ranges have some of the best trails in the entire state, maybe among the midwest. The Cuyuna range obviously needs no introduction with their destination trail system, but further north the Mesabi range now recently boasts some incredible trail systems as well at Redhead MTB Park, Tioga Recreation Area, and Giants Ridge bike park. But one of the original trail systems there is often overlooked with all the great MTB destinations nearby, Lookout Mountain & Laurentian Divide trails just north of Virginia. Built upon an ancient geologic structure known as the Giants Range Batholith are handcut, old school trails in a rugged and isolated backcountry experience. I always enjoy riding here, especially during peak Fall colors, and wanted to showcase some of the great trails that you should consider riding when visiting up north. Mountain climber in particular is a really fun descent, but also the hardest climb on the Mesabi Iron Range in my opinion. Shoutout to Erik and Frank for building and maintaining these fun backcountry trails over the years! #ridetherange
