Simplicity itself to tie, this little gem of a fly can be offered on waters running and still with confidence, especially when anything small and dark is hatching.

I have unfortunately chosen to tie it with a Black Cock Hackle feather as I do not have a Hen Cape in Black but apart from that it is true to the pattern in the book.
I would personally choose this fly for fishing my local River, Afon Vyrnwy as part of a team of 3 flies in the top dropper position on a leader of about 10ft. Cast across and downstream and swing the flies over the tail of a pool. On stillwaters I dare say it could floated and used as a Dry Fly for finnicky Rainbows or used as a top dropper in a team of Nymphs.
