Since the beginning of film, there have been many memorable on-screen pairings. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Clark Gable and Jean Harlow, Clark Gable and Joan Crawford, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, Van Johnson and Esther Williams, Van Johnson and June Allyson, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, Rock Hudson and Doris Day, James Cagney and Joan Blondell. But no matter how brilliant and charming and successful those pairings were, not one of them holds a candle to William Powell and Myrna Loy. They were, without a doubt, the greatest on-screen couple in the history of cinema. William was a master of comedy and Myrna was the perfect counterpart for his witty and right-on-the-spot comedic skills. Sometimes I wish they had been a couple in real life. I mean, they were absolutely made for each other.

This isn't much, but I hope it makes justice to the magnificence of the Powells.
