Japan have been performing Skinkei Jime to their catches for home or markets for decades. They do it for good reason as it preserves the eating and storing quality of their fish catches.
Severing all the nerves in a fish removes the ability of the nervous system to secrete chemicals which deteriorate the flesh quality.
