Okaz newspaper revealed shocking details about a sophisticated fraud case involving Saudi musician Abu Rayan. The scam began while Abu Rayan was recovering in a Jeddah hospital after open-heart surgery. A conman posing as a wealthy businessman and sponsor for medical treatment in Germany gained his trust through false sympathy and frequent visits. Over time, the fraudster, supported by a private driver who was part of his gang, gained access to Abu Rayan’s accounts on Absher, National Access, and Najiz platforms.
The scam included offering a luxury apartment at the sea as an investment opportunity and asking for Abu Rayan’s house deed under the guise of updates. Eventually, the conman exploited Abu Rayan’s trust and health, used his phone to issue a legal power of attorney, and sold the house—worth 8 million riyals—without his consent. Other well-known figures in Saudi Arabia have reportedly fallen victim to similar tactics. Abu Rayan is still fighting to regain his property and his rights.
