Pathé master 204099, rec. Paris, September 1933.
Arthur Payne, Robert Carver, Edward Coleman, James Logan, Frank Riley (vocals) with piano accompaniment.
One of the few black groups that chose to make a career in Europe, the Kentucky singers came to France in the late 1920s. They toured with Lud Gluskin's orchestra and made a handful of solo discs for Pathé, but not much is known about them. It is interesting to note, though, that obviously their style is to a considerable degree influenced by the Revelers, although the gospel roots show now and then. At the moment I can't think of another black group that so obviously copied the sound of a white quartet.
