Mark Shuttleworth is a man with a big heart, dedicated to DeLand and Lake Helen, and an advocate for local history and its preservation. A graduate of Stetson University, he has been dedicated to salvaging and restoring architectural elements since 1981, leading to the establishment of Florida Victorian Architectural Salvage, now relocated to “La Hacienda,” a complex at 319 E. Voorhies in DeLand. His business specializes in reclaiming antique materials and fixtures, aiming to preserve architecturally significant properties in Central Florida. If a structure cannot be saved, Mark and his team carefully salvage what can be re-purposed.
Mark was named Preservationist of the Year in 2021 by the West Volusia Historical Society. He was instrumental as project manager on the restoration of the James W Wright Building. Mark also donated many hours and expertise to the Historical Society in its recent restoration of DeLand House. Mark and his wife Anna Tomczak, a well-respected artist and photographer, reside in Lake Helen, where he served as mayor for several terms.
