Kazakhstan Road Trip Pt. 1: The Singing Sand Dunes and the Katutau Mountains 🇰🇿

After receiving help from some awesome locals in Almaty, I was able to rent a car for 5 days and head into the beautiful Kazakh countryside. I knew I wanted to camp every night of my trip and it turned out to be easier than expected. After trying to take the less beaten path into Altyn Emel National Park, I was forced to turn around once I arrived at someone's locked gate. I was lucky to find an unmarked dirt road on Google Maps that ended up taking me miles out into the untouched steppe. It made for the perfect camp site on night 1 of my Kazakhstan road trip. What I liked most once I was in the park was the lack of development. This ultimately lead to seeing few visitors as all roads were dirt with no services. The dunes were small but afforded good views of the surrounding areas including the Ile River. I really enjoyed the French couples' company as we were all so excited to be there and had the same itinerary. At the end of night 2 of my road trip, it was just the 3 of us camping in an illegal camp spot surrounded by an other worldly desert landscape. The trip only got better from here so stay tuned for part 2 of my road trip through the desert of southern Kazakhstan.
