The ACAN Natural Materials Group is delighted to welcome Craig White, Barbara Jones and Will Kirkman, experts in building with natural materials. They discuss the prefabricated systems that they work with, with examples from across the UK and Europe. The presentations are followed by a live Q&A.
🌱Craig White: Craig is CEO at Agile Property and Homes. Agile delivers low-carbon, affordable homes to those in housing need using low-carbon, Modern Methods of Construction, built and scaled at pace. Agile is helping to solve the housing crisis, using a land-supply that is new, free & hidden in plain sight. The climate emergency drives Agile’s design and development of its products and services, to ensure that operational energy and embodied carbon is minimised and that only natural and renewable, carbon capturing materials are used in the fabric of its build systems.
🌱 Barbara Jones: Barbara is the founder of the School of Natural Building, and the UK’s preeminent straw-bale building authority. She has decades of experience with straw bale building, clay and lime plastering, building physics and leading work on building sites across the UK and Europe. Barbara set up Straw Works, now Wellspring Architecture, which is a bespoke design company specialising in buildings made of straw and other healthy natural materials. Barbara is now a technical consultant at EcoCocon, an innovative wall system making the best of natural materials while ensuring healthy, comfortable, and energy-efficient living at the same time.
🌱 Will Kirkman: Will is the managing director of Ecomerchant, a business specialised in sustainable and natural building materials for the building trade and consumers. He recently set up We Build Eco a building company producing energy-efficient building kits from any design with a fast and precise process. Their kits are easy to assemble, and the buildings are natural, healthy and sustainable.

Welcome to the OFFICIAL Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN) YouTube channel! Architects Climate Action Network is a network of individuals from within architecture and it’s related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown.
We recognise the compelling scientific consensus that our present trajectory will lead to catastrophe if we do not make ambitious and radical changes as a matter of urgency. We are already seeing the consequences. We also acknowledge that the built environment is a major contributing factor to the climate crisis and as such requires complete and rapid transformation (which we are yet to witness).
We can no longer remain secluded within personal and professional silos and instead must harness our agency as citizens with shared professional backgrounds to bring about the necessary changes to our industry. As a network of individuals, ACAN is able to act at speed, without conflict of interest, and is open to methods that may be unavailable to other campaign organisations.
