Your Credentials Don't Impress Me

Everyone says they “don’t need help”… until their voice gives out.
In this video, I break down something that genuinely surprised me: entry-level professionals are honest about needing vocal help, while people higher up the ladder often respond with ego instead of curiosity. Funny thing is—those same people were beginners once too.
I also address a recent credential debate with a speech-language pathologist. Let’s be clear: I respect SLPs. An SLP diagnosed my own Muscle Tension Dysphonia and helped me get my voice back. Medical voice therapy matters. I’m not pretending otherwise.
What I am saying is this: credentials don’t automatically equal competence. Authority comes from results, reps, and decades in the trenches—not just letters after a name. Degrees can be earned. Authority is built.
I’m a vocal coach. I work in prevention—breathing, posture, placement, and habits that keep professionals out of the doctor’s office in the first place. No therapy. No medical claims. Just real-world voice care from someone who’s lived it, taught it, and fixed it hundreds of times.
If your voice is part of how you make money, ignoring it is a rookie move.
Learn the difference between credentials and authority—and decide which one actually matters.
