Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation, pain, and stiffness most often in the spine and the joints above the tailbone where the spine connects with the pelvis — the sacroiliac joints. Ankylosing spondylitis symptoms may include:

Morning stiffness in lower back and hips
