Scenic Drive from Kitimat to Smithers BC | BC Road Trip Adventure

The drive from Kitimat to Smithers, BC, is a beautiful three-hour journey that showcases the natural splendor of northern British Columbia. About halfway, you’ll pass through Kitwanga, a small community at the junction of the Stewart-Cassiar Highway. Just beyond Kitwanga, at Cassiar Junction, you have the option to turn north toward Stewart and Hyder, or continue along Highway 16 toward Smithers.

Closer to Smithers, you'll encounter Moricetown home to a renowned fishing spot on the Bulkley River. The rocky canyon here creates a natural fish ladder, and in season, you can often spot Indigenous fishers catching salmon using traditional methods—a sight not to be missed.
Smithers is known for its vibrant arts scene, cozy cafes, and a range of boutique shops that reflect its welcoming, community-driven atmosphere. Every Saturday from spring to fall, the Smithers Farmers' Market comes to life with local vendors offering fresh produce, handmade crafts, and baked goods.
