Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 20 in G Major, Op. 49 No. 2 (Analysis)
This piano sonata, No. 20, is one of the composer’s shorter and simpler sonatas, consisting of only two movements, together with Sonata No. 19. It was composed around 1795 and published in 1805. Although it is numbered as No. 20, it was in fact written earlier than Sonata No. 19. Owing to its concise, modest character and relative ease of performance, it is widely used today as a study piece for beginner piano students.
