Yoga is uniquely placed to help us deal with pain. Pain is an inevitable part of life - we can't avoid it, but yoga helps us create a safe environment for exploring it and for examining (and potentially) our relationship to it.
The feeling of pain is highly subjective and varies widely between people and within ourselves in different situation. It arises through a complex interplay of our physical state, emotional and psychological state and our attention.
As I see it, yoga helps by:
1. Creating a safe, unthreatening space to move and explore
2. Teaching us how to release tension and relax more
3. Bring our attention to the present moment which helps us to
De-stress (let got of worries and anxieties)
become more sensitive, to listen more and consciously face ourselves with non-judgment
4. By teaching us how to change in our relationship with all sensation - in fact all experience. We learn to stop wanting and craving, and learn the art of acceptance.
