[patch]chorus (2025)
An audiovisual exploration of the link between movement and sound.
A creative fusion of figure skating, sound, and motion.
In [patch]chorus, figure skaters Matej Silecky and Moe Okuda bring movement and music together in a completely new way. Using tiny M5Stick motion-tracking devices on their hands and feet, every gesture they make shapes the sound you hear. Both skaters also wear blade-mounted microphones that capture the real sound of skating—glides, edges, turns, and power.
The motion data transforms these blade sounds in real time, changing their volume, resonance, and color. On top of this, a layer of piano textures flows through the piece, with the skaters’ movements even influencing a built-in distortion effect.
The result is an immersive audiovisual performance where movement becomes music and skating becomes an instrument.
