THE Onghala Combined School in the Engela constituency of the Ohangwena Region is totally encircled by flood water, making it practically impossible for many learners to attend school on Monday.
The only access gravel road is on the verge of being washed away.
The education directorate is expected to take a decision on the way forward, depending on whether the flood water keeps rising or subsides during the next few days.
The constituency councilor, Elkan Hainghumbi, earlier today held a roadside emergency meeting with members of the constituency development committee, traditional leaders and other stakeholders including representatives of the NDF and the police, visited the affected areas and made recommendation on what needs to be done in the face of the efundja waters flowing in from Angola.
Among the recommendation was a request that village headmen continue monitoring the situation and keep the relevant government offices informed.
At least 25 traditional homesteads are said to be in an eminent danger of being flooded and their inhabitants would be moved to temporary shelters if the situation worsens.
At least three places were identified where temporary camps would be set up.
Tents and water tanks will be needed as well as a mobile clinic.
The NDF has promised to provide boats should the need arise.
Rear Admiral (retired) Bamba Nghipandua warned that human beings, even when in danger, have a tendency of resisting relocation.
"Taking someone from the comfort zone of his or her [flooded] residence is a daunting task," he said.
