Kalamkari painting of Tree of life ✨



Introduction to Kalamkari :

' Kalamkari ' is a traditional art of hand painting on fabric such as cotton and silk. The word 'kalam' means pen and 'kari' refers to craftsmanship. Natural dyes are used for this kalamkari painting. It often relates to motifs, peacock, animals, flowers, Paisley, and Indian mythology. Kalamkari has become really popular nowadays. I worked on paper but you can try this on fabric as well. Best suited for sarees and kurtis.


This is a very simple painting of 'TREE OF LIFE'. Tree of life is considered one of the most complicated painting in kalamkari art. So I made an easy version of it using only three colours. I didn't include any birds or fruits since this tutorial is for beginners. The border part (with the Paisley) took more time than the main part for me. Yet, I enjoyed painting this kalamkari art. Go ahead and try this ancient art style!




I used a black gel pen and acrylic colours.
Shades: Crimson
Lemon Yellow
Orange
Light Blue
White
(If you work on cloth material use fabric paint and make sure to soak the cloth in lukewarm water for 15 minutes, let it dry in shade, press it neatly before you paint.)
