ABOUT THE CASE:
On March 11, 2011, 30-year-old Jayna Murray and 28-year-old Brittany Norwood were closing the Lululemon store in Bethesda, Maryland.

Hours later, Jayna was found dead - bludgeoned and stabbed more than 300 times - in one of the most savage murders in Montgomery County history.

Brittany claimed the two women had been attacked by masked intruders, tied up, and assaulted. She said she had managed to survive by playing dead. The story sent shockwaves through the community, sparking fear and sympathy.

But as detectives dug deeper, the details didn’t add up...

Crime scene analysis revealed no signs of forced entry, and the physical evidence contradicted Brittany’s account. Jayna’s wounds were far more severe than Brittany’s minor injuries. Blood patterns, shoe prints, and DNA pointed to a staged crime scene.

Investigators also discovered that earlier that evening, Jayna had confronted Brittany about suspected theft from the store - a confrontation that quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

When police located Jayna’s car, they found both women’s blood inside, suggesting the vehicle had been moved after the attack - a critical detail Brittany had failed to mention in her earlier statement.

Faced with overwhelming forensic and circumstantial evidence, Brittany Norwood was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

In November 2011, she was convicted and later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
