Honda GB350s POV: Riding One of My Favorite Mountain Roads

Japan is a unique place. When you think of Japan you probably envision Samurai, temples and shrines, Sushi and other delicious food, the night lights of Tokyo…and of course earthquakes.

I have lived here for 25 years and in that time have experienced hundreds if not thousands of earthquakes. Some small, others devastating. But from them comes something beautiful.

You see all that seismic activity means that Japan has a very interesting topography. A collection of mountain ranges run down the country from north to south almost like a giant spine. And with those mountains we get mountain roads. Historically these roads were the only routes between cities and prefectures, but as Japan emerged from the economic slump of world war 2 people began to buy cars. And in a country that is roughly the size of California but with three times the population, well…that’s a lot of cars.

So like most places in the world Japan tackled the issue of congestion by building expressways and bypasses, but unlike most places in the world, they still maintained the old roads. And that, for people like you and me, lovers of all things two wheeled, is a very good thing…let me show you what I mean...
