How valid are short term candlestick patterns like the 5 minute timeframe? I get this question quite a lot actually. This is a good question because the question asks: if I have 20 candles on a daily chart, each candle is representative of an entire day. This can provide us with plenty of useful information. But on a 5-minute chart this has a span of only 5 minutes; how valid is that movement compared to a daily chart? The answer is: way less valid because the amount of volume (participants) is less. Look at the prior trades and positioning - how it has got there and where the levels are. (is it with volume or not?)
