Jacques Derrida (8) - Truth / Meaning / Knowledge

This video brings us to a discussion of truth, meaning, and knowledge. Derrida, of course, holds that there are no such things as single, universal, eternal truths. We discuss what is relative (a historical period) and non-relative (the epoch of signs) in such a proposition and look at how logocentrism and phonocentrism feature in this. When it comes to meaning, we mainly focus on non-meaning as the ground for the former; exploring in a little detail the notions of absence, silence, excess, and madness. Finally, we look at knowledge connecting this with the ever-present notion of signs.
