Jacques Derrida (7.3) - Writing

This is our final video on the topic of writing. In it, I revisit Saussure’s principle of the arbitrariness of the sign to tidy up what I had to say about this in an earlier video, get Derrida’s response to Rousseau and Saussure’s claims regarding the violence (tyranny, usurpation, crisis) of writing (including a discussion of “pure writing” as the non-phonetic), and wrap up with some general comments about writing from Writing and Difference.
