In this video, we come to Derrida’s conception of writing (which he calls arche-writing), and which is a primary, originary form of writing that founds both speech and (‘narrow’ and ‘vulgar’) writing. After looking at some features of arche-writing, we see that it is actually another name for differance. We finish with a discussion of ‘articulation’, which brings us to another concept: the hinge, which describes the discontinuous nature of differance as it operates within linguistics.
