This Focus road bike came in for a "standard" service, but once I got it on the stand, it turned into a full rescue mission. The chain was stretched beyond belief, the headset was bleeding rust, and the rear shifter was completely dead.
When I opened up the Shimano STI lever to diagnose the fault, I found something I haven’t seen in decades of fixing bikes: the remnants of TWO different broken gear cables jammed inside the mechanism.
In this video, I’m stripping the bike right back to the bare frame. We are dealing with seized derailleur bolts, servicing cup-and-cone hubs, reviving seized brake calipers, and rebuilding the bike to be a solid winter runner.
