In the Palo Verde Mountains near Tadpole Tank, I try to decide whether some black veins are pseudotachylite (rock melted by friction along a fault during an earthquake) or just manganese oxides. PS: I did not actually collect a sample here. Although rockhounding is generally legal on BLM land, this site was a little close to the road and a possibly culturally sensitive watering hole, and my only justification would have been mild curiosity. Besides, rocks are heavy. #geology #ore #science
