A leading economist says there’s an “obvious” link between Australia’s migration explosion and the housing crisis - and a straightforward solution to end the pain.

Mr Cox, 42, an electrical installer who lives in Gosford on the NSW Central Coast with his partner and three young children, recently received a “crushing” rent increase notice of more than 40 per cent.

Their small two-bedroom apartment will go from $410 to $590 per week—an extra $9360 a year. Mr. Cox, who earns $70,000 and already works two jobs, has no way of finding the extra cash.

Whether you’re for it or against it, it’s undeniable that by virtually any metric, Australia is in the midst of an unprecedented experiment with mass immigration.
