Ask old Bangaloreans about Chinese restaurants they have fond memories of from the 90s, most will mention the original Chung Wah that first opened on Residency Cross Road. Begun by a Chinese-origin Indian family who migrated to Bengaluru from Kolata in the 80s, this was the default spot for an Indo-Chinese meal. My last visit here was sometime in the late nineties, and I was quite curious to know what this restaurant was like today, nearly 40 years on. I stepped in for an impromptu lunch, and suffice to say, I was happy with most of the dishes I tasted. And let me tell you this, there are branches of this restaurant all across town, but I think out here, some of the old flavours still remain.

I hope you’re enjoying my outings in ‘The Review’. In its first season I am visiting Bengaluru restaurants from the nineties, that even with the passage of time are as relevant for a special outing as they were back then.
