Matthew Sandoval is a PhD student training with Dr. Javier Diaz Alonso. His research focuses on how connections between brain cells—called synapses—are organized and change over time to support learning and memory. The lab uses a wide range of tools—from molecular biology to brain imaging—to better understand how the brain works and what goes wrong in neurological disorders.
The Howard Schneiderman Training Program in Learning and Memory at the University of California, Irvine Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory (UCI CNLM) aims to train the next generation of neuroscientists in cutting edge techniques, interdisciplinary approaches and team science. The program is funded by the National Institute on Mental Health and supplemented by the Howard Schneiderman Endowment.
