This is what happens when two daughters take on their mom’s mooncake recipe for the first time! We make mistakes so you don’t have to. In short, this is part mooncake tutorial and part mooncake therapy session for anyone making them for the first time.

We’ve posted plenty of mooncake recipes over the years, and this year we’re taking on a classic, the red bean mooncake with salted duck egg yolks. It’s arguably the most popular flavor—though that probably depends on who you’re asking!)

Also, this red bean mooncake recipe makes 24 MOONCAKES. That’s a $300-$480 value considering that the average box of four mooncakes goes for $50-$80.
