"My government remains ready to engage in a serious and sustained dialogue with India at all times and at all levels. Peace and tranquility between Pakistan and India are essential for progress in South Asia. While we could not unfortunately make any progress towards a resolution of our disputes, one consolation that could be derived from the Agra Summit is the revival of the SAARC process."

"Terrorism uses different religious, territorial, economic, and ethnic justifications in different countries. We know, we now have an international coalition against terrorism which accepts that terrorism has to be countered in a global and comprehensive manner. The international community has agreed that no country will allow its soil to be used actively or passively to finance, shelter, arm, or train terrorist groups."

STORYLINE:

India's prime minister snubbed Pakistan's president and shrugged off his plea for dialogue on Saturday, apparently ending all possibilities of talks between the nuclear-armed nations whose armies are on high alert.

After Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf called for dialogue with his Indian counterpart, he offered an on stage handshake to Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
