(Filmed 7/18/25) Back at it with uploads from Grand Junction. This time, I'm going back to some of the videos that I got from the Colorado Custom Elevator & Lift tour earlier.
This elevator was originally a 1970's Dover, possibly with Traditional or Black Button fixtures. Colorado Custom Elevator & Lift modernized this elevator around 2016 with Innovation Universal fixtures and surface mounted hall stations. The COP has a weird layout, though.
Up in the machine room, it pretty much still has the original Dover drive machine (which moves the car up and down), though some parts of the machinery were replaced, and the controller was definitely replaced. Fun facts that I learned:
Older controllers (typically relay-controlled, like mechanical computers) use several different wires to connect to each call station, one for each direction button, while newer controllers (electronic, solid-state controllers) use only one wire which connects to each call station, typically using Category 5 or equivalent, simplifying the wiring.
You can actually send the elevator to any floor from the controller in the machine room (typically reserved for maintenance), as demonstrated in this video (see 2:03).
Special thanks to the technician at Colorado Custom Elevator & Lift for showing me this elevator and the machine room and for letting me film this elevator!
