Drawing a Long Haired Dachshund in Soft Pastels – Pet Portrait Timelapse (Part Two)

In part two of this tutorial timelapse, I show you how I use tonal values to really bring a portrait to life. Exploring that shadow on the right side of the face and how to subtly blend in colour into the shadows, while making something with very little detail look very detailed as it goes into the darkness.

That cute nose with the gorgeous highlights on it - again it’s all about the light and how it is falling onto this dog. That’s what creates so much depth here.
Then the start of the body and that fluffy paw! I went over the chest fur a few times, trying to finalise how I wanted it to look, so we will continue this in part three.
This timelapse condenses over three hours into five minutes to give you an insight into how I draw my pet portraits and what is covered in the real time tutorial.
