We can easily write a self modifying program for the intel MCS-85 family 8085 microprocessor. This program works ONLY from RAM and will not work with ROM memory.

At any point of time, the program will contain only ONE rotate instruction. The program will either have RAL instruction or RAR.
RAL = 0X17
RAR = 0X1F
Depending on CARRY flag, the RAR instruction will change to RAR instruction by flipping the 3rd bit of the instruction by XOR with 0X08.
So the program itself modifies the program by changing the opcode at the location 2002.
