Another one of my go-to local short ride routes. A work lunchtime break and about 16 mile / 25km loop in total. APOLOGIES that the camera angle slips upwards for a couple of mins in the middle 🤕
The name doesn’t necessarily mean it was built by or only for kings. In medieval England, “King’s Highway” was a legal term for an important public right of way — essentially a major route that connected settlements and had to remain open for public use. It's an ancient packhorse and drover track that pre-dates modern highways. These kinds of routes were the primary means of moving goods and livestock across the Pennines and between settlements before turnpikes and railways were built.
