ABOUT THIS EPISDOE:
In "Hero by Trade," Beany and Cecil join a detective adventure parody, searching for treasure on "Treasure Island," encountering comedic challenges, puns, and slapstick gags. Dishonest John tries to beat them to the treasure using various tricks and disguises. The story is lighthearted and packed with wordplay and parodies of detective clichés, typical of the show's humor.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
This Mattel-sponsored series titled Matty's Funnies with Beany and Cecil debut on January 6, 1962 , featuring Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil animated cartoons. Characters Matty Mattel and Sister Belle (originally from Matty's Funday Funnies would appear as directors of the cartoons and in many intermissions along with Clampett's characters of Beany Boy, Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent, Captain Huffenpuff, and Dishonest John.

There were only 26 half-hour shows made, with the last episode broadcast on June 30 the same year. Between 1963 to 1967, the series was repeated on the network's Saturday and Sunday morning schedules (and then ultimately broadcast in syndication) as The Beany and Cecil Show.

ABOUT THIS PRESERVATION:
This episode is part of an ongoing preservation project to digitize over 1,000 Time for Beany kinescope episodes before they deteriorate beyond repair. Many of these films are severely degraded, and some are currently being treated at UCLA's film preservation laboratory. Each scan costs approximately $150 and represents a race against time to save this irreplaceable piece of television history.

This channel features exclusive scans made directly from original kinescope negatives - many of which haven't been seen since their original broadcast.
