The Doobry is an excellent lough fly designed by Scottish angler and author Stan Headley. The original dressing can be found in his book Flies of Scotland and is an excellent fly for trout, seatrout and even salmon. In the early season I like to fish the original fly in sizes 12 where it works well for trout feeding on emerging duckfly (chironomids/buzzers). In larger sizes I like to use the variant tied here as an attractor fly at daphnia time in the deeper water. Bright flies with fluorescent/UV materials added can be excellent at this time (late August/September) pulled fast through a wave.
