It was that time of year again for the Friends of the 261 to host their annual Fall Color Excursions with their steam locomotive star, Milwaukee Road 261. 2016 brought in opportunities to run some unique trips in partnership with the Twin Cities and Western Railroad, including some rare mileage.
In this video, you'll be both onboard and trackside as the 261 steams west to Glencoe on the TC&W. This is former Milwaukee Road territory where the famous Olympian Hiawatha once raced to the Cascades on a daily basis. Today, it's a leisurely 30 mph run filled with photo runbys unassisted (Although diesel power was provided for the return trip due to no turning facilities).
It's a sight to see and a way to travel as the 261 steams along on the old Milwaukee Road!
