Looking for ways to be functionally fit? Well training should always be built around functional movements. Lifting over our head while standing, moving from a seated position to a jump, all these little things play such an important part as we get older.
Too many times you will see people do so much of their movements from a seated postion. In the end you will start to become more imbalanced and exacerbate already weak muscles. Training is simple and look at your compound movements and do them. But, also throw in more agility and plyo work. Move in the frontal, sagittal and transverse planes.
If you wanna know how having weak muscles and poor agility will effect you. Look at the majority of the elderly. They struggle lifting their legs up over the curb, getting up from a seated postion or even turning around without being disoriented. Life is already hard, do not make it harder by not training or training improperly your whole life.
