Beijing Qianmen Street is about 840 meters long (north-south direction), which is one of the famous commercial streets along the central axis of Beijing. It starts from Tianqiao South Street in the south and ends at Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower in the north. Historically, it was the imperial road for emperors to go to the Temple of Heaven and Xiannongtan, as well as the commercial center of old Beijing.
It was formed in the Ming Dynasty, it became a bustling business district in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican era due to the establishment of the railway station, gathering many old brands (e.g. Quanjude, Tongrentang, Dabei Photo Studio, etc.).
After the renovation in 2008, it was restored to the Republican style, retaining elements such as the tram tracks, and became a pedestrian street.
Surrounding landmarks:
The northern end connects the Zhengyangmen Castle (Qianmen) and Tiananmen Square.
On both sides, Dazhalan and Fresh Fish Mouth Hutongs are the gathering place of traditional old shops and snacks.
