We finally visited the Small but Charming Chinatown in Boston!!

After visiting most of the Chinatowns on the West Coast, it's time to embark in a short journey to check out some of our East Coast Chinatowns!

In the mid 1800s, Chinese people in California were facing violent discrimination, so many moved elsewhere in search of better opportunities. In 1870, a few Chinese people were brought from San Francisco to break a strike at the Sampson Shoe Factory in North Adams, Massachusetts. A few years later, many Chinese found themselves in Boston, where they settled in what is now known as Ping On Alley. Throughout the years, there were several attempts to drive out the Chinese in the area, but the perseverance of the Chinese folks allowed them to remain in the area, and there is still a very lively and charming Chinatown in Boston today!

Today, Boston's Chinatown is still a very active Chinese community with tons of Chinese restaurants, boba joints, gambling uncles, and gossiping aunties. It's not as big of an attraction compared to San Francisco and New York's Chinatown, but it is still a lovely little Chinatown!
