Mising groups announce road blockade from July 15 over killing of two youths; demand fast-track trials
Itanagar | Jul 14:
Three prominent Mising community organisations have jointly called for an indefinite road blockade from July 15 across all roads linking Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, seeking justice for two community youths allegedly murdered in separate incidents in Arunachal Pradesh.
The blockade was announced by the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), Mising Mimag Kebang (MMK), and Takam Mising Mimé Kebang (TMMK), following the deaths of Probash Doley (22) and Shankar Pegu (29).
According to the organisations, Doley was allegedly murdered on June 18 at Chimpu near Itanagar, while Pegu was allegedly shot on July 13 at Roing, Lower Dibang Valley, and later succumbed to his injuries at TRIHMS, Naharlagun.
"We had earlier appealed to the Arunachal Pradesh government, and we are doing so again now, to place both murder cases under a fast-track trial and ensure swift justice. In pursuit of justice, we have called for an indefinite road blockade," TMPK General Secretary Sun Kumar Pangging told Arunachal Express Pasighat correspondent Saraswati Gao over the phone.
Pangging further alleged that no meeting was convened by the Arunachal Pradesh government, nor was any support extended or updates shared with the community bodies despite a previous blockade and submission of a memorandum.
“We want immediate justice for both victims as per the law,” he said.
“Through this protest, we want to show the Arunachal government that the lives of our Mising community members residing in Arunachal also matter,” he added.
When asked about the duration of the blockade, Pangging did not give a specific timeline but said its continuation would depend on the government’s response.
“If we do not receive a response by Tuesday, we will continue the blockade,” he stated.
Blockades are set to be imposed on routes connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at Bandardeva, Likabali, Jonai, Harmuti, and other locations.
“Until the governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam come together and take a decisive step, we will not remain silent,” he asserted.
