Our first day in Crete was unforgettable! We checked into the stunning Elounda Infinity Exclusive Resort & Spa, located in the beautiful town of Elounda, and soaked in some luxury and breathtaking views of the Cretan coast. 🏖️✨
Later, we visited the Melidoni Cave, a place of deep historical and emotional significance. 🕯️
This cave isn't just a natural wonder—it's also a site of tragedy and heroism. In October 1823, 370 women and children along with 30 Cretan warriors sought refuge here from the advancing Ottoman forces led by Hussein Bey. When they refused to surrender, the cave was set on fire. All lives inside were lost by January 1824. Today, an ossuary in the cave’s central chamber honors their memory. 🕊️
