Join us as we explore two of Lefkada’s hidden gems – the peaceful Faneromeni Monastery and the historic Griva Castle!
Our first stop is Faneromeni Monastery, perched on a hill just outside Lefkada Town, with stunning views of the Ionian Sea. Founded in the 17th century on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to Artemis, the monastery is now devoted to the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Lefkada. Over the centuries, it has been rebuilt several times due to fires and war, yet it remains a powerful symbol of faith and resilience. Inside, you’ll find beautiful iconography, a small religious museum, and a quiet garden area with animals perfect for a peaceful visit.
Next, we head to Griva Castle (Kastro Griva), near the town of Vonitsa. Built in 1806 by Ottoman ruler Ali Pasha with French assistance, this hilltop fortress once held strategic importance. Today, its atmospheric ruins offer a quiet escape and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. It’s a short walk from the parking area and an ideal stop for history lovers and adventurers.
Whether you're here for history, nature, or just a bit of exploration, this video captures the charm and story behind two lesser-known but unforgettable places in western Greece.
